Doors – what a sexy subject!!. They are often the last thing that people think about when planning to build or remodel a space. They generally are not considered fun, pretty, or inspirational like the other materials in a home. As long as they open and close what is there to talk about?!
Well, lots actually! We have all been in noisy homes, where you can hear everything going on in every room. No one likes this loss of privacy, but most don’t realize that part of the blame lies with the type of doors they have in their home. Here are some facts to help you understand why the type of door makes all the difference!
Hollow core doors are built with thin surfaces and an air-filled core, there is not much to block the movement of sound because they’re built like drums. By being denser and heavier a solid-core door helps to alleviate that sound transfer.
Another disadvantage to a hollow-core door is that if the flooring is not level or the opening is a smaller than normal size. There is not much at the bottom of the door that can be trimmed before you compromise the integrity of the door.
There are many ways to build a solid-core door, depending on the design esthetic you are after. If you are going to paint your door a solid routed furniture board door may be a good option for you. Solid hardwood doors may also be painted, or they may also be stained if that is your preference.
Style options are almost endless, from flat-faced, to highly detailed and carved, you can transform a room with the door style that you choose. Then for those that have a particular design aesthetic choosing the right door will help to maintain a cohesive style.
Have some fun making doors in your home be an enhancement!!!
